Royal Rumble Review

Introduction

The main genre for Holly Kerr’s “Royal Rumble” is romance. The two main characters are Camille and Odin. Odin is a prince of a land called Laandia, and Camille is the daughter of a prefect from Saint Pierre. Together they have been put into an arranged marriage due to a mistake made by Prince Odin. However, they both realise they have something to gain in this marriage. Could there still be a spark of love remaining from their past connection?

Writing style

The writing style in the book is very easy to get through, it was easy to follow but also engaging. I loved being in the head of the characters and getting to know what they felt. I would say the book was fast paced, however that might be because I read quite quickly.

Characters

Camille

She is a strong willed lady who does not care about others opinions of her. She has a lovely little dog called Betty White (love the name), who she takes very good care of. She is also good at reading people, like when she managed to understand the personalities of Odin's brothers just from one dinner. I like how she did not let the reactions and actions of the people of Laandia get to her head, and instead of cowering in fear she talked back and showed them that she did not care. Literally a girl boss. (P.S: I hate her father.)

Odin

Honestly, at the start I felt that he was just dumb, as he made stupid mistakes and did not seem to understand the very obvious things that everyone else could. However, during the course of the book he did end up redeeming himself. He started to listen and tried to fix his mistakes. I’ve realised  that he as a character is realistic, we all make mistakes and sometimes we do not realize until someone else tells us. I liked that from his point of view we gained an understanding of his actions. (P.S: I love his father.)

Enjoyment and impact

I loved reading this book, as it was easy to read. I am waiting for the rest of the books in this series;  I believe they will be about Odin’s three other brothers.

Target audience

People who want an easy, quick, romance novel with dual POV, royal themes, an arranged marriage and a lot of communication.

Overall assessment

I overall really liked this book. At times I felt like the plot changed from everyone being happy to having a big problem and then again being happy to  having problems, but that makes it feel more realistic, as nobody's perfect. I will be needing a novella of this couple though, and Camille’s father in a pit of fire.

4 stars out of 5!
