“Me falling in love with you is my fault. Not yours. And it was the best thing I ever did.”

"She was a woman, after all. Living in a world created by men. And she had long known that assholes protect their own. They are faithful to no one but surprisingly protective of each other."

"And Nina understood, maybe for the first time, that letting people love you and care for you is part of how you love and care for them."

What an incredible and unique story! This was the first book I've read by Taylor Jenkins Reid (apart from Evidence of the Affair, but that was a short story so I don't really count it) and I absolutely loved it.

The whole plot of the book takes place within 24 hours but there were little parts of the book where we got the backstory of the parents of the four Riva siblings. The bond that these siblings have is everything. The writing is so beautiful and the author makes it easy to fall in love with each sibling, especially Nina. She deserved so much better; she was always there for everyone but herself. Honestly, everyone in this book deserved better. The reason it was harder for Nina was because she had to take over her mother’s responsibilities after she died and had to raise her siblings all by herself. Nina's speech about all this to Mick, her father, towards the end of the book, was so powerful. I'm so proud of her! So when she finally chose herself and to live for herself towards the end of the book, I found it very admirable.

I really wanted to give this book 5 stars but I found that at times the timeline was quite chaotic because we kept jumping back and forth between the present and the past. There were also so many new characters that were introduced during the party and I found it a bit difficult to keep track of who was who. But then again I want to mention that Malibu Rising is a book that's different from what I usually read, because of how unique the story was. Overall, I really enjoyed this though!
